Description: Coat of arms of Wallachia under the rule of Matei Basarab (1632–1654), based on the version designed at the time by Marcus Boschinius; see reproduction and legend in Dan Cernovodeanu, Știința și arta heraldică în România, pp. 248–249. Bucharest: Editura științifică și enciclopedică, 1977. These feature the escutcheon depicting Prince Matei's personal arms, showing his own silhouette, with the throne and the walking stick signifying his belonging to the grand boyardom (Cernovodeanu, p. 74). The design was maintained under Prince Constantin Șerban, even though the latter had been Matei's rival, but dropped by later rulers (Cernovodeanu, pp. 64, 249). Colors as used in other period coats of arms of Wallachia.
