Description: Photograph of Frank Craven in Our Town, cited for excellence in the theatre by Stage magazine Caption reads as follows: Because this was the year that Frank Craven came out on the dim, empty stage of the Henry Miller Theatre one night, leaned on the proscenium arch, looked at his watch, looked at the audience, lit his pipe, stuck his hand in his pocket, and said, simply, "This play is called Our Town. It was written by Thornton Wilder …" Because at that moment we were introduced to one of the wisest, rarest characters and one of the wisest, rarest plays in the history of the theatre.
