Crotalus cerastes cerastes — Mojave Desert sidewinder Rattlesnake subspecies native to the Mojave Desert. — OR — Crotalus viridis — Prairie rattlesnake. Rattlesnake species native to the Western U.S. Credits The photo was taken by me, Dr. Randall Reiserer, at Bouse Dunes, Arizona in 1995. Please cite me when using this image. Note The picture provided was not a sidewinder, but a prairie rattlesnake, Crotalus viridis. I wrote a dissertation on rattlesnakes, with particular focus on sidewinders, so I am sure about this one. The specimen is now in the collection of the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, University of California, Berkeley.
