Description: Wythenshawe Hall is a 16th-century medieval timber-framed historic house and former stately home in Wythenshawe, Manchester, England, five miles south of Manchester city centre in Wythenshawe Park. On Tuesday, 15th March 2016, dozens of firefighters battled to save the Tudor mansion after a blaze destroyed its roof and first floor. Police believe it was an arson attack. The fire is believed to have started at the front of the roof of the Tudor building, which is set in 250 acres now known as Wythenshawe Park. The building, built in 1540, suffered extensive damage to the bell tower, roof, first floor and timber beams. The 16th-century hall was owned by the Tatton family for hundreds of years before being given to Manchester city council in 1929. The building was a gallery and museum until 2010 when it was taken over by the Friends of Wythenshawe Hall.
