Description: Heraldic escutcheon on chest tomb of Roger Lygon and his wife Katherine Denys (d.1560) in Fairford Church, Gloucestershire. Lygon impaling Denys: Dexter: Lygon: Argent, two lions passant in pale tails fourchée gules (Source: Debrett's Peerage, 1968, p.123-4, Earl Beauchamp) Sinister: Denys: Quarterly of 4: 1: Gules, three leopard's faces or jessant-de-lys azure over all a bend engrailed azure (Denys). Here the leopard's faces are "tidied-up", arranged incorrectly. 2: Argent, a raven proper within a bordure sable bezantée (Corbet of Siston, Glos.) 3: Argent, on a chief gules three bezants (Russell of Dyrham, Glos.) 4: Lozengy or and azure, a bend gules (Gorges). This armorial resulted from the famous heraldic law-suit of Warbelton v. Gorges.
