Description: An accurate three dimensional representation of the molecule of Dihydrokavain in ball-and-stick format. The structure is derived from kavain, the originally derived molecular structure, with the addition of two hydrogen atoms and the reflexive removal of a carbon-carbon double bond. This compound and the closely related compounds derive their name, kavalactones, from the lactone chemistry exhibited by the δ-lactone ring (which is also an α-β unsaturated ketone compound). The rest of the name, the kava- part, comes from the name of the parent organism, Piper methysticum, colloquially called Kava or Kava-kava.
