Description: Sculpture of the "Dublin Martyrs", Mayor Francis Taylor and his grandmother-in-law Mayoress Margaret Ball. It stands outside St Mary's Pro-Cathedral in Dublin. Unveiled in 2001, it depicts "Margaret Ball, a former Mayoress of Dublin who gave refuge to priest in her home, was arrested during the celebration of Mass, and died in prison in 1584 at the age of 69 years. Francis Taylor, also a former Mayor of Dublin, was 71 years old when he passed away in prison in 1621, having been jailed for seven years without charge or trial." They were blessed in 1992 by Pope John Paul II, who described them as 'faithful witnesses who remained steadfast in their allegiance to Christ and his Church to the point of extreme hardship and the final sacrifice of their lives'.
