Description: Dukinfield Old Mill Dukinfield Cotton Mills by Ian Haynes (1993)clearly identifies this as Dukinfield Old Mill. The earliest part was erected about 1792 and it was variously extended. The surviving mill building dates from 1894 and all the earlier buildings were eventually demolished.Note the engine house projecting to the right. According to the Arthur S Roberts list of steam engines, this housed a Buckley & Taylor, Oldham horizontal tandem compound of 600 horsepower with Corliss valve cylinders 20" & 40" x 60" with a 20' flywheel (these figures need treating with a degree of circumspection). There is also a portion of glassed in diagonal rope race visible above the left hand end of the engine house and to its left a series of blind windows. They mark where the rope race and driving pulleys for the mill would be housed. The loss of a mill from the foreground (Park Road Mill, built 1891-3) opens up this pleasing end elevation.
