Description: Raypaths of S-waves and P-waves through the Earth's mantle and core, illustrating how P- and S-wave detection reveals planetary interiors. Earthquake shadow zones are the zones where seismic waves do not reach. S-waves do not penetrate the outer core, so they are shadowed everywhere more than 104° away from the epicenter.
