Description: Henrik Mouritsen's experiments on magnetoreception showed that very weak radio-frequency interference prevented migratory European Robins from orienting to the Earth's magnetic field. If the interference was effectively shielded out with earthed aluminium sheeting, the birds oriented correctly. The result implies that their magnetic compass must rely on the quantum radical-pair mechanism, as an iron compass would not be affected in this way.
