Description: Eugène Lepoittevin, Les Bains de Mer, Plage d’Etretat (Sea Bathing, the Beach at Etretat), 1864, private collection. The young man with a blue bathing cap in the group at left has been identified as Guy de Maupassant. The painting was thought to have been lost since the fall of Napoleon III, who bought it at the 1865 Paris Salon. Auctioned at Sotheby's in Paris, 3 December 2020, for 226,800 EUR.
