He excelled at three sports in both high school and college: track, baseball and football. Sanders played Cornerback and returned punts for Bobby Bowden at Florida State University. While at FSU, Sanders set records for career punt return yards and for the longest interception return for a touchdown. He also played outfield for the baseball team and ran track & field. Sanders won the Jim Thorpe Award in 1988, given to the nation's top defensive back. He went on to play parts of nine seasons in Major League Baseball, although he is most well-known for his career in professional football. Sanders played for five NFL teams over 14 seasons. He was selected to the Pro Bowl eight times, won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 1994, and played on two Super Bowl Championship teams (San Francisco, 1994; Dallas, 1995).
