It is now for the employes of the Balti-more and Ohio to use every endeavor toearn,- out the wish expressed in the lastparagraph of Mr. Willards letter, and to con-tinue in the efforts to please the public, andgive the service that it is the duty of all to give. There is no time when the old home fire-side appears brighter and more cheerfulthan at Christmas-tide; and one or two ofour force could not resist the magnetic in-fluence of home, and spent the festive seasonwith their loved ones. Foremans Clerk C. M. Webb went to hishome Way down in Tennessee, and IndexClerk R. V. Montgomery journeyed into theHoosier State to visit the old folks. Kagey, CaptainIn April, 1905, The Vigilant Reel and Hose Company No. i was chartered under that name by the State for the purpose of savinglife and property from loss by fires and to promote social intercourse among i:s members. The present organization is equippedwith an up-to-date American-LaFrance auto truck; also has a big hook and ladder truck and three hand reels. One of the bigfires that made the Vigilant Reel and Hose Company No. i, of Keyser, W. Va., famous, was that of the big Barton holocaust of Feb. 3,1919. Another big job of the boys was that of Feb. 18, 1919. when the First National Bank and the Opera House caught fire. Thebank was badly damaged and the Opera House was a total loss. The boys a^ain prevented what might have been the worst fire inKeyser; their work in keeping the flames from adjoining buildings was heroic.
