Description: Firman of Sultan Muhammad b. Tughlaq Shah. According to Sheila S. Blair "this scroll is rare axample of a decree to survive from pre-Mughal India. It shows how the regular naskh hand used for transcribing manuscripts was transformed in a chancery hand that later became ta'liq" (Sheila S. Blair, Islamic Calligraphy, 2008, p. 384). Ink on paper backed with cotton. Sheet dimensions: 46 × 11 1/4 in. (116.84 × 28.58 cm) Framed dimensions: 54 1/4 × 19 1/8 in. (137.8 × 48.58 cm). India, dated Shawwal 725 AH/September-October 1325.
