Description: The former Wonder Bread factory at 356 Fougeron Street, Buffalo, New York, May 2020. Located next to the New York Central Railroad's Buffalo Belt Line, the factory complex traces its roots back to George Urban's flour milling operations; after extending Urban Street through his local landholdings (located today on the north end of the building, behind it from the perspective of this photo) he sited the first mill here in 1903. The present-day facility dates to 1914, built by archtect C. B. Comstock for Ward & Ward Bakers, which were acquired in 1930 by the Continental Baking Company, manufacturers of Wonder Bread. In its last years, from 1995 until its closure in 2004, the facility also manufactured various Hostess brand baked goods. It's currently vacant and proposed for conversion to apartments, a process helped along by its 2018 nomination as a Buffalo city landmark.
