Description: Franklinite Locality: Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA (Locality at mindat.org) Size: 5.8 x 4.7 x 4.5 cm. Sharp and lustrous, jet-black franklinite octahedrons richly cover mounded calcite matrix on this showy and excellent specimen from the famous Sterling Hill Mine. The largest franklinite, at 2.2 cm, is proudly and aesthetically perched at the top of the piece. The crystals have textbook octahedral form. There is some contacting and bruising on the top crystal - hard to say how much of which, but this remains an extremely rich and highly representative example of the species and locality. Super orange fluorescence on the calcite. Ex. Charles Hansen Collection.
