Description: Hawthorn Hedge, 4 years after Laying, in Gunnersbury Triangle. The hedge is formed of large old trunks, cut part-way through and laid nearly horizontally, held in place with Hazel stakes, which in turn are secured with a binding of long flexible Hazel rods near the tops of the stakes. The laid Hawthorn, still alive, has sent up multiple vertical shoots, and there is a tangle of small spiny twigs, just coming into new green leaf in mid-March.
