Description: Galashiels Burgh Buildings The Burgh Chambers date back to 1867 while the Clock-tower and War Memorial, designed by Sir Robert Lorimer, was added in 1924-7. The equestrian statue of a mosstrooper, a Border reiver, was sculpted by Thomas J Clapperton. This is a view from Cornmill Square with an elaborately carved column in the foreground forming part of the Cornmill Square fountain. A corn mill on this site was demolished and the mill lades transformed into a balustraded water feature in 1912-13 by Sir Robert Lorimer.
