Description: George Washington Memorial by Edward Ludwig Albert Pausch (1856-1931) - Allegheny Commons Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Dedicated on Feb. 23, 1891. The head of this piece copied after Houdon's George Washington in the Virginia State House in Richmond, Virginia. This artwork is in the public domain because the artist died more than 70 years ago. SIRIS record describes the memorial thus: "Equestrian portrait of George Washington. On the front panel of the base is a large eagle, flanked on one side by a ship in full sail and on the other by a fort. The side panels are adorned with symbolic laurel and oak branches, and each end panel contains the Masonic symbol of a shield on which a square and compass frame the arm of a workman wielding a hammer. The upper section of the plinth is in the design of a Roman fasces, a symbol of official authority."
