Description: Lieutenant General Sir Gerald Lathbury who succeeded Lieutenant General Sir George Erskine as Commander-in-Chief, East Africa, in May 1955. Lathbury made greater use of special forces tactics against the Mau Mau including using captured insurgents for intelligence gathering.
