Description: Portrait of John Goodricke (1764-1786), the astronomer who famously studied the variable star Algol and other variable stars. The picture is said, by a Goodricke descendant, to have been painted in 1785 by James Scouler. See C. A. Goodricke's letter at Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 1912, volume 73(11), pages 3 – 4.
