Description: This is one segment of Grant Road, NW, Washington D.C., located one block from the original location of Fort Kearny. The road was originally constructed in 1862 by the 15th NJVI to connect the forts constructed for the defense of Washington, D.C.. Originally known as New Military Road, small sections such as this still exist as alleyways scattered along the route of the original construction.
