Description: The Greendale War Memorial for Veterans of All Wars, also known as the Greendale Eagle, is a memorial created by the Swedish-American sculptor Carl Milles for the City of Worcester, Massachusetts in 1947-48.The memorial is located in the Greendale neighborhood of Worcester along West Boylston Street between Bourne Street and Andover Street. The memorial consists of a sculpture of an eagle atop a globe made of Swedish black granite, on a base of field stone. The base of the memorial contains the following inscriptions: “They fought and died that we might retain our liberty” and “Erected by Greendale Post No. 319 American Legion 1947”. The sculpture was dedicated in a ceremony on July 11, 1948.
