Description: Guará or Scarlet ibis (Eudocimus ruber). Taxidermy specimen of a Guará on display at the Museum of Veterinary Anatomy FMVZ USP. Guará has long legs for a bird ranging from 50 to 60 cm height. It has a pointed bill, long and slightly curved downward and typical red plumage. In Brazil, its diet is based on the crab Uca maracoani found in estuarine mudflats. The indigenous-derived names of several Brazilian locations are associated with the regional presence of Guará in the past, such as Guaraqueçaba (PR), Guaratingueta (SP), Guaratiba (RJ ) and Guarapari (ES). This file was published as the result of a partnership between the Museum of Veterinary Anatomy FMVZ USP, the RIDC NeuroMat and the Wikimedia Community User Group Brasil. This GLAM project is reported. Photography: Museum of Veterinary Anatomy FMVZ USP Author: Wagner Souza e Silva
