Description: Guardian Building entrance lobby — with two-story Art Deco entrance screen of Monel metal, and walls and vaulted ceiling decorated with mosaics and Pewabic Pottery and Rookwood Pottery glazed tiles. The Ezra Winter mural, Michigan, can be seen in the middle, through the metal grill. The 1929 Art Deco style Union Trust Building—Guardian Building is located at 500 Griswold Street, Downtown Detroit, Michigan. Designed by Wirt C. Rowland of Smith, Hinchman and Grylls architects, and built by Gorham Co. of Providence, Rhode Island (1928-1929). The building's interior, which gave rise to the building's nickname "Cathedral of Finance," has undergone a full restoration (2006). A contributing property in the Detroit Financial Historic District, and on the National Register of Historic Places.
