Description: Built between 2003 and 2006, this contemporary theater was designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel and Architectural Alliance, and features a distinctive dark blue paneled facade. The ten-story building stands 167 feet tall, with three theater performance spaces inside, LED masts that can light up and display messages or visuals, and a 178-foot long, cantilevered “Endless Bridge” that extends towards the Mississippi River from the fourth floor over West River Parkway. Inspired by the form of nearby former mill buildings, the structure features heavy use of geometric forms on the exterior, long strips of windows, and a large, cantilevered yellow glass-enclosed exterior of the Amber Box lobby on the ninth floor. The building is a unique and distinctive feature of the city, and the first commission for Ateliers Jean Nouvel in the United States.
