Description: The crew of HMS Castle Harbour when she was in use by the Royal Naval Examination Service at Bermuda (based at St. George's Town near the East End shipping channels, rather than at the Royal Naval Dockyard at Bermuda's West End). The crew was made up of naval (Royal Navy, Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve) and civil (Merchant Navy, and colonial government Pilot Service,[1][2] and a Sea Scout is visible in the photograph, fourth from the right) personnel, including and a naval officer who examined the ship, it's crew and passengers, and its cargo before allowing it to proceed inwards through the channel, and pilots who were delivered to arriving ships to steer them through the reefs to harbour, following examination and authorisation by the naval examiner. The examinations took place at Five Fathom Hole, under the guns of St. David's Battery.
