Description: An evening photograph of the Hanbury Arms public house. The pub is a famous 16th century establishment which has an adjoining castle dating back to the Norman era, but the slipway on the banks of the pub had a role in the Roman fortress of Isca Augusta at Caerleon. The pub is situated in the town centre, on the banks of the River Usk. The pub is famous for being the site where Alfred, Lord Tennyson wrote the Idylls of the King from the window of the pub. The establishment provides views from the bar across the valley of the Usk and of Caerleon Bridge.
