Description: This circa 1869 carte de visite by early Los Angeles photographer Stephen A. Rendall has two inscriptions, one at the bottom below the image and another on the reverse that states that Hamilton is at the left, while at the right is William McKee, a fellow native of Ireland. A copy of the photo, taken decades later by C.C. Pierce, is in the Special Collections section of the library at the University of Southern California and the description for it indicates that Hamilton is on the right—so we have something of a mystery!
