Description: Homemade yogurt maker using a 10 watt bulb (or a higher wattage bulb during colder weather). Note the pinecone on top. This is used to show that it is in use and should not be moved (which would prevent the yogurt from setting properly). There are vent holes at the bottom back and top back. These can be blocked with small, wooden pegs during times of colder weather. The second level is made using wooden dowels (chopsticks) to allow air to move from the lower level upward. There is also a small plank of wood upon which the jar rests. This is to prevent the yogurt at the bottom of the vessel from overheating. This yogurt maker produces good product using tetrapak milk that is added at room temperature without boiling, along with culture (a small chunk of frozen yogurt which keeps in the freezer indefinitely) from the last batch. It can be plugged in from 7-11 hours and left unplugged afterward for a few hours if desired. This yogurt maker can also serve as a herb dehydrator.
