Description: Horned Lark, Eremophila alpestris, nestlings begging, baby birds in nest, with distinct gape coloration and patterns. Horned Larks nest in open nests on the ground. NOTE: This nest was photographed as part of a nest monitoring project in the oil fields of Alberta, Canada by a professional trained in viewing sensitive nests and minimizing the disturbance to the birds and the surrounding vegetation. Photographing nests simply to "snap a cute pic" can expose them to predators and disrupt the feeding and care of nestlings!
