Description: Hotel in Borehamwood, formerly The Thatched Barn. The roundabout is the Junction off the A1 for the A5135 into Borehamwood. What is now a Holiday Inn was formerly a Moat House, a hotel built in 1989. It is the site of The Thatched Barn, a roadhouse on the A1 built in 1927 and frequented by stars from Elstree Studios. Later it was bought by Billy Butlin. In the war it was used by SOE (Special Operations Executive) for development of bombs and secret weapons. In the 1960s it became a Playboy Club.
