Description: Revers of a 1728 Schilling Coin from Hamburg. In 1725 the Hamburg government decided to introduce a new currency. 34 Mark Krurant coins were to be struck from one fine Cologne mark of silver, i.e., from approx. 235 g. 16 Schillings define one Mark Kurant, and coins of 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 Schillings were issued. If the displayed 4 Schilling coin, 136 were struck from one fine Cologne mark of silver. At a fineness of 562,5/1000, the gross mass of the coin is nominally 3.05 g.
