Description: This is the main airport in the North of Scotland (after Aberdeen which is on the North-east coast.) Although of modest size it plays a vital link with the islands of Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles. It also links the north of Scotland with the Scottish Central belt, England and beyond into Europe. The first airfield built here was for the RAF in 1940. In 1947 it became available for civilian use and has slowly grown since then. In the centre-left of the picture is the main terminal building which is not large but arguably offers a more uncomplex and personal service than the gigantic terminals of large airports. In my photo, taken as we came into land, we can also see a variety of executive aircraft and private craft as well as an Airbus of the low-cost airline easyJet about to board for a flight to London.
