Description: Inyo gilia, Linanthus inyoensis, California, Volcanic Tableland, Round Mountain, Owens Valley drainage, elevation 2281 m (7485 ft). This regional endemic annual is rarely seen outside of exceptionally wet years, when it can be locally abundant. Found mainly in sandy granitic soils along the east side of the Sierra Nevada in Inyo and Mono counties, California, and adjacent southwestern Nevada, mainly at about 1800-2600 meters (6000-8500 feet) elevation. The species also extends into the southern Sierra Nevada of Tulare and Kern counties, California, and disjunctly to the Desatoya Mountains of Lander County in central Nevada, where it has only been collected once. The species is very similar to Linanthus campanulatus, from which it is sharply distinct by its shorter flower tube.
