Description: In 1829, nearly thirty years after his famous portrait of Madame Recamier seated (Paris, Carnavalet Museum), Gérard works on a new portrait of his muse, seen this time from the back, his beautiful profile offering himself to the sight of the spectator. Another study of this portrait, on which the artist made use of a wash drawing more important, belonged to the model, then to his niece Amélie Lenormant.
