In Southern Thailand it is called simply called kaeng som (Thai script: แกงส้ม; lit. "sour curry"). The curry in this image is a very traditional and basic version with fish and bamboo shoots. The photo was taken at a small eatery in Chiang Mai which was run by a lady from Ko Pha Ngan.
