Description: Caricature of German conductor Dr Karl Muck. Caption read "Wagnerian Opera". Biographical note on reverse of print read : He is a young man of quite good appearance and much music. He is also a Doctor of Philosophy; who, have conducted many German Bands with marked ability, became a Conductor of the Imperial Opera : which means a great deal, since in Berlin every conductor must be up to the mark. So they imported him to London to beat time to Wagner's music at the Opera; and during the season just ended he has been quite a success at Covent Garden. He is full of tradition and, with all his talent, he has not yet been over-advertised in England : which is remarkable. Nevertheless, he seems to be the ideal Wagner conductor : subtle, scholarly, and even spiritual. He knows the value of a pause, he knows music, and he is an artist. He as at once full of reserve force, yet less emotional than most of his predecessors : and his admirers speak of his intelligence as almost excessive.     He has a handsome Austrian wife who professes much ignorance of music.
