Description: A Kawaiisu family — vintage sepia photograph of the Kawaiisu Native Americans of California. The pre-20th century Kawaiisu tribe lived in the Tehachapi Mountains and Southern Sierra Nevada, and traveled eastward on food-gathering trips to the northern Mojave Desert and the western edge of Death Valley. Today, some Kawaiisu people are enrolled in the Tule River Indian Tribe of the Tule River Reservation, in Tulare County, California.
