Description: View of the building known locally as the "Silk Mill" and the "Alpaca Mill" in Kent, Ohio as seen from the parking lot for the Kent Free Library. Today the building is privately owned and holds several apartments. Its foundation was first laid out in the late 1830s for a silk mill, but the building was never completed beyond excavation before the silk industry failed in Kent. It was built in the early 1850s by Marvin Kent to house a cotton mill, but that venture also failed before the building was completed. Eventually it was used as an alpaca mill and later as a worsted mill until the 1880s. Today it forms part of the Kent Industrial District, a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
