Description: Kröhnkite Locality: Chuquicamata Mine, Chuquicamata District, Calama, El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region, Chile (Locality at mindat.org) An EXCEPTIONALLY well-crystallized example of this rare copper species, with crystals to 1.7 cm though most average about 1 cm . SHARP, ISOLATED crystals of this species are rare for several reasons: firstly, most krohnkite from this locality formed as thick massive vein filling and thus lacks individual crystal form; and secondly the locality has been closed and defunct for decades. It remains one of the most important rarities locales in the world, but specimens are getting harder and harder to obtain out of old collections. 6 x 4.3 x 3 cm
