Description: Temporary Lake Taka, in the Arcadian highland. The lake is in a long basin, called “Tripoli-Plateau”, because the capital of Arcadia borders in its middle. It is a geological “closed basin”, as mountains surround it on all sides, this implies that all rain water collects in a flat lake at the southern end of the slightly inclined basin. tectonics totally shattered the carbonate (limestone) rock layers of the mountainous range of Arcadia over time. Cracks and fissures enlarged and 7 (!) ponors developed over time, through which the lake is drained. The mediterranean climate of the Peloponnese (very hot and dry for months) accelerates the process of totally drying up. A pond, built with a fund of the EU in 2000, now ensures water for irrigation throughout the year, but the NATURA 2000 resort, once a biotope frequented by many species of flora and fauna is endangered.
