Description: An illustration of the so-called "Copper Solar Ogee Deity," a 21 inches (53 cm) in height S.E.C.C. Mississippian culture repoussé copper plate. It depicts the profile of a dancing winged figure, wielding a ceremonial mace in its right hand and a severed head in the left. The plate was discovered at the Lake Jackson Mounds site in northern Florida. Design wise it is in the Late Braden Style associated with Cahokia Mounds in Illinois. Similar to the Rogan Plates found at Etowah Mounds in Georgia, several motifs differentiate this representation of the "birdman". On his head he is bearing an ogee motif and instead of the raptor beak common to other birdman representations, the figure on this plate has a curled proboscis which is similar to those found on several shell gorgets from Missouri and long-nosed god maskettes.
