Description: On my way to the next lighthouse, the Annapolis Royal Lighthouse can be seen from the highway across the harbour. Built on the site of the old Government House (residence of the garrison engineer) which burned in 1833. Lieutenant-General John Henry Bastide (1700–1770) was a British army officer and military engineer who played a significant role in the early history of Nova Scotia. He was the chief engineer at both of the sieges of Louisbourg (1745 and 1758). Location: South shore of river, downtown Annapolis Royal Standing: This light is still standing and operational Began and Lit: 1889 Structure Type: Tapered square wood tower, white, red lantern Light Characteristic: Fixed Red (1992) Tower Height: 8.53 meters (28ft) high. Light Height: 9.1 meters (30ft) above water level.
