Description: Built on the site of the old Government House (residence of the garrison engineer) which burned in 1833. Lieutenant-General John Henry Bastide (1700–1770) was a British army officer and military engineer who played a significant role in the early history of Nova Scotia. He was the chief engineer at both of the sieges of Louisbourg (1745 and 1758). Location: South shore of river, downtown Annapolis Royal Standing: This light is still standing and operational Began and Lit: 1889 Structure Type: Tapered square wood tower, white, red lantern Light Characteristic: Fixed Red (1992) Tower Height: 8.53 meters (28ft) high. Light Height: 9.1 meters (30ft) above water level.
