Description: Longnose batfish (Ogcocephalus corniger). Photograph was taken underwater at about 30 ft (9.1 m) on a very sandy bottom with lots of coral rubble. It wasn't too far from shore where the surge was quite noticeable. Batfish are not common on Bari Reef – haven't seen another one anywhere near the island in over a decade. Batfish are quite skittish so it is very difficult to get them to sit still long enough for the sand to settle. They have a unique texture with a sort of algae-like overcoat.
