Description: Phra Narai Ratchaniwet, also Narai Palace, is located in Tha Hin subdistrict, Muang Lopburi district. It was constructed in 1666 by King Narai, the Great to use for various purposes. It was called “Versailles of Siam” by visitors. The architecture inside the palace is a combination between Thai, Persian and French styles. The palace is divided into three sections, these being: the outer zone, comprising a banquet hall for foreign guests, Phra Chao Hao Building, twelve treasury buildings, elephant stables, and a reservoir; the central zone, comprising Dusit Sawan Tanya Maha Prasat Throne Hall and Chantara Phisan Throne Hall; and the inner zone, comprising Suttha Sawan Throne Hall. In the reign of King Rama IV, it was restored and renamed “Phra Narai Ratchaniwet”. Today, a part of the palace is “Somdet Phra Narai National Museum”. Phra Narai Ratchaniwet was the most advanced technology palace 400 years ago. There is an Astronomical Observatory inside and it is the first palace in Thailand with water systems with more than 20 fountains around built by Italian pastor.
