Description: The Lyman Trumbull house, Alton, Illinois. From about 1849 to 1863, this 1-1/2 story brick house was the residence of Lyman Trumbull, an arch-opponent of the Radical Republicans. Trumbull sponsored much Reconstruction legislation, including the Confiscation Acts, Freedmen's Bureau Bill of 1866, and the Civil Rights Act of 1866.
