Description: 1863 print titled Une vue du quai de Mahé sur la côte de Malabar (A view of the wharf of Mahé on the Malabar Coast). From an article titled Voyage au Malabar published in the French bi-yearly magazine Le Tour du Monde in 1863. The author points out that there is no public building in the small town of 3,000 inhabitants, and that the residence of the French governor (most likely the building on the right on the print), is rented from a rich inhabitant. Mahé was one of the five settlements of French India and the only one on the west coast of India.
