Description: Hōshōryū is awarded the 2021 Makuuchi Best Newcomer Award in January 2022. The prize is given by sports newspapers (Chunichi Sports & Tokyo Chunichi Sports) to the wrestler who showed the best performance throughout the year. Newly-arrived wrestler from the previous year who have been in the makuuchi for less than two tournaments are also eligible for the award (it's the case for Hōshōryū who began his makuuchi career in September 2020).
